USTA Summer League at Bass River Tennis Club
The Bass River Tennis Club will again be very active in the USTA New England summer league program.  Here is some information about USTA, our club and how we approach league participation.

How to belong
Membership at Bass River is not required in order to participate.  Many of our teams are comprised of members, but this is often more out of expedience.  Non-members are welcome to participate.  You must, however, be a member of the USTA.  Sign-up for a USTA membership at ustanewengland.com.  You also must have a rating with the USTA in order to get on a roster.  Information on ratings can be found on “Tennis Link” at the same site as the membership info.

The season
The 2011 USTA League starts May 16th and ends July 21st  (an extra week is added at the end if a makeup is required).  Teams that win their flight go on to the District Tournament, August 8th-10th.  Bass River is one of the host sites for districts.  From there, winning teams go to Sectionals out in the Springfield area and then the best of the best move on to a National Tournament.  Nationals are usually in October.  Senior Nationals are always the following spring.
Bass River note: If you ever have a chance to compete at a National, go!  It is one of tennis very best experiences.

Getting on a team
In most cases, teams are put together and run by a team captain(s).  In some cases, teams are comprised of players who may have participated together in the past and have little or no room for additional players.  Other teams may be in the market for new players or subs.  Bass River does not run a tryout for USTA teams.  We only try to help existing teams fill rosters and, if a need arises, facilitate a new team entering the league.  We will assist our members in every way possible to find a team.

Where to begin
If you have never played USTA League or have not in 3 years or more, you will need a rating.  As out of order as it seems, you have to begin by getting on a team.  This will allow you to get a "team number".  It will be provided by the captain of your team.  You then go on the USTA website and click "Register for a team".  The cost to register is $16.00, and if you are not a USTA member, that will be another $42.00.  For those interested in subbing once or twice a season, it is unlikely you will find this to be a very good tennis bargain.  An in-house match program may be more to your liking.

What we offered in 2010. Teams are forming now for 2011.
