| The Bass River Tennis Club will offer a junior program in 2 levels. Our Junior Developmental Program (JDP) is an age based program designed for beginners, advanced beginners, low intermediate and some intermediate players. Participants are grouped first by age and then by ability within their age division. Players need only fill out the application for the class or classes they want. No tryout or placement lesson is required! Our Tournament Preparatory Program is aimed at the more competitive and accomplished junior player. This skill based program is for Bass Rivers’ intermediate to advanced level juniors. Those who wish to participate in this program must attend a brief evaluation for proper placement. |
| GENERAL INFORMATION All children participating in the clinic or team programs are required to take a membership. The memberships are tailored to the age of our players. More information is detailed below. However, anyone is allowed to take private or small group lessons with Bass River teaching Pros. The fee for the lesson is the lesson cost, plus the standard guest fee. All other programs, except for USTA tournaments and events are member only. No make-up classes or credits will be given for classes missed unless the class was cancelled by Bass River due to inclement weather. Credits for injury will be given from the date the club is notified of the injury. A doctor’s note may be requested. |
| MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION Membership to the Bass River Tennis Club is required for all participants. Children who are 8 and younger are required to purchase an “Under 9” membership to participate in Junior Program. We recognize that children 8 and under do not have a big call for using a membership. That is why the fee for 8 and under (3:00 and 3:30 JDP classes) will only be $25.00 for a full year. By enrolling every child as a “Member”, it will greatly enhance our clinic enrollment/re-enrollment process. This nominal membership fee gives 8 and under players all the benefits of membership except for the 2 hours of free court time each month. Students who age into the 4:30 JDP program during the year will have to take a pro-rated full junior membership. To enroll your child for the first time, simply stop by Bass River and speak with a Member Service Representative. Additional questions can be directed to Mike LaPierre by email or call (978) 927-0102. The Junior Membership ($144.00/year) includes 2 hours of free junior court time per month, September 1st 2011-August 31st 2012. Only the junior’s portion of the court time is free. Adults and guests playing with juniors on free court time will pay their half of the court at the regular court rate. If the parent of the junior member is not a Bass River member, he/she can play with their child without a guest fee (weekends and Holiday periods only). Free time is not transferable and not carried forward month-to-month. Membership is a requirement for participation in the North Shore League Travel Team Program regardless of age. |
| JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS (JDP) The focus of the JDP is to introduce and develop the fundamentals required for rapid improvement. Stroke production, footwork, scoring and basic strategy will be introduced. A brief introduction to physical and mental training will also be covered. This is considered an instructional program and it is designed to emphasize fun and develop a love for the game of tennis. Session 1 September 12th to November 3rd (open enrollment Aug. 8th) Session 2 November 7th to January 5th (open enrollment Oct. 24th) Session 3 January 16th to March 15th (open enrollment Jan. 2nd) Session 4 March 19th to May 17th (open enrollment March 5th) Session 5 "Outdoors at BG&T" info available in early 2012 For A Junior Developmental Program Application pdf, click here. |
| CARNIVAL DAY - FRIDAY AFTERNOON SHOOTOUT One of the most commonly asked questions by our Junior Development participants is; “When can we play a game?” While the ultimate goal of lessons is to be able to play a game, it takes a long time to be proficient enough to play. Our teaching philosophy is that we have your child 1 to 2 hours per week. Skill development and technique is everything in tennis, but we want to play too! That is why we created Carnival Day/Friday Afternoon Shootout. This allows the teaching staff to be more instructive in the lesson program and at the same time, give participants the opportunity to play and really enjoy the game of tennis. Built right into the clinic price is the Friday afternoon Carnival Day/Friday Afternoon Shootout. Your child is welcome to come every Friday for a fun filled hour of games, music, contests and surprises. For our 3:30 and 4:30 clinic players, we will concentrate on an hour of games that reinforce the week’s tennis lesson. The emphasis will be a “Carnival” like atmosphere with lots of laughs for all. Our 5:30 age students (age 12 and up) can expect lots of fun too, but we will focus more on game, point and match play. We’ll call it our “Friday Afternoon Shootout”. You come to the same time as your JDP lesson. For example, if your child is in the Tuesday, 4:30-5:30 class, they come to the Friday 4:30-5:30 Carnival Day. The Carnival Day/Friday Afternoon Shootout are supervised by our staff of teaching pros as well as some of the top junior players in the club. Our older and more experienced players serve as a great inspiration to the younger less experienced player. And best of all, there is no cost to attend. Make the time to be here each week for all the excitement. For Printable PDF, Click here |
| TOURNAMENT PREPARATORY PROGRAM (TP) The Tournament Prep classes are arranged by level and require a brief student evaluation. For our junior members looking to challenge themselves, this higher intensity program is designed to prepare students for competitive tennis. Classes are ideally suited for players who play, or aspire to play, USTA tournaments, high school or college tennis. Stroke development, footwork, match preparation and competitive strategies are covered. Important note to parents: Enrollment in our junior programs is considered to be continuous. Students enrolled in session 1 will automatically be re-enrolled in the following sessions unless you notify us of the withdrawal. A reminder note will be sent home and a follow-up email will be delivered part way through each session to give you the ability to step out of the program if you desire. Evaluations are done on Thursday, September 2nd from 3:00-7:00. For students entering the program after the start, a brief evaluation will be scheduled at your convenience. Session 1 September 12th to November 3rd (open enrollment Aug. 8th) Session 2 November 7th to January 5th (open enrollment Oct. 24th) Session 3 January 16th to March 15th (open enrollment Jan. 2nd) Session 4 March 19th to May 17th (open enrollment March 5th) Session 5 "Outdoors at BG&T" info available in early 2012 For A Tournament Preparatory Program Application pdf, click here. |
| NORTH SHORE JUNIOR TRAVEL TEAM The Bass River Tennis Club is proud to again offer a North Shore Junior Travel Team. Boys and Girls interested in competitive singles and doubles are welcome to participate. Both the boys and girls teams will carry 4 or 5 players in each category (12 & under, 14 & under 16 & under and 18 & under). Matches are played on Saturday afternoon and a weekly practice is held on Friday. Junior players are able to withdraw from Junior Clinic at the end of any session, but participation on the Junior Team is considered to be a season long commitment. We ask our players to be available as much as possible from mid-September through Mid-April (matches and practices are off during vacation and Holiday weeks). Any player knowing they cannot make a commitment to team should not take a spot away from a player who can. Membership is a requirement for participation in the North Shore League Travel Team Program regardless of age. For A Junior North Shore & Developmental (J.V.) Teams Application pdf, click here. |
| IN HOUSE JUNIOR VARSITY TEAM For players not yet ready for the Travel Team, Bass River will run a Junior Varsity team with a Sunday afternoon practice and twice per month matches. Ages and levels for this team are to be determined based on interest, but players here should be able to attend weekly coaching sessions. These practices are designed to implement some of the Junior Clinic work into a play formatted coaching session. Round Robin match play with other team members or scrimmages set up with other North Shore clubs is the ultimate test of how a student is progressing. Any player hoping to play Travel Team, but just misses the cut should play on this team. Any Travel Team spot that comes open will be filled by a player on Junior Varsity. | HIGH PERFORMANCE TRAINING PROGRAM A new program this season for the most motivated and committed junior player is our High Performance Training Program. Players are selected by invitation based on athletic ability, dedication, motivation and work ethic. This program is designed by Rares Petritoi, a top teaching professional and draws on every resource available to Bass River members. On court training, physical and mental conditioning and sports psychology are all part of this program. Weekly intense drill sessions, weekend tournaments and in-house challenge matches are just a few of the opportunities this program offers. Additional questions can be directed to Rares Petritoi by email or call (978) 927-0102. |
| MISCELLANEOUS OFFERINGS The Bass River Tennis Club also offers a wide range of other tennis related services. Private, semi-private, group of 3 and group of 4 lessons can be scheduled with the teaching staff. USTA tournaments, high school prep classes, round robins and specialty camps are held regularly.
